Skirt Panels Attached!

Got all the skirt panels attached with lots of nails and glue. They all lined up pretty close to how I expected them to. I had to do some minor trims with an exacto knife and spackle
a few spots to smooth things out.

I glued and spackled the seams on the panels the strengthen everything. Then I painted over them with primer and sanded it.

 An inside view...

And here is the pretty much finished Skirt...

Installing Dalek Bumps

Everything glued into place. I used Liquid Nails glue, so hopefully they'll all hold.

I might reinforce them on the backs with something... or maybe just stash a roll of duct tape under the seat in case of emergency...

Day of the Dalek Skirt Panels

The skirt panels are all painted now, and here they are leaning in place on the frame one more time before I attached the hemispheres.

Once I glue those hemi's into the holes, I can attach the panels to the frame, spackle in any gaps, and touch up the paint.

I still need make the bumper at the bottom a bit thicker, but I'll do that later.

108 mm

Fixed the holes in the skirt today. Finally got my hands on a slightly larger than 4" hole saw.
A 108mm one did nicely.

They fit!!
After that, I gave the panels a couple coats of grey primer, a quick sanding, and a coat of silver.

Next I'll glue in the hemispheres and attach the panels to the skirt frame, and the bottom part om y my Dalek will pretty much be done!

Holes!

Just finished drilling the 56 4" holes in the skirt panels for the hemispheres.
I cheated a little bit and only measured the locations for each hole on one side of the skirt and the clamped the corresponding panel from the opposite side to each and drilled straight through - so I did 2 panels at a time. Except for the back panel obviously...

And here they are leaning in position against the skirt frame again.

Now on to those hemispheres!!

More Skirt Panels

Spent the evening cutting out the rest of the skirt panels and then trimming the edges and sanding them to fit. It looks like they'll line up right once they're nailed and glued into place. They're just sort of leaning in place in these photos.

I still have to cut out the holes in each panel for the hemispheres first though. I'm also trying to decide if I should paint the panels before or after attaching them.

Skirt Panels

Started cutting out the skirt panels today.

I'm using 1/8" MDF for these to keep the weight down a little bit. It's also much easier to cut.

Going to get them all cut out and make sure they fit properly and then cut the holes for the hemispheres. Planning on putting the hemispheres in before permanently attaching the panels to the skirt because the struts will be in the way if I try to do it later.
